On Monday morning, in an e-mail to students from the Alabama athletics and ticket office, UA announced that the school would be issuing refunds for student ticket packages.

The e-mail received by students states that refunds will be “distributed within one or two weeks” and will be “processed automatically,” without needing a student’s request. The statement goes on to announce that a new process for football ticket sales will be released as the season’s dates and plans for stadium capacity are finalized.

This statement is coming as universities from around the country announce plans for reduced stadium capacity. While the University of Alabama has yet to make a decision about how many fans will be allowed into Bryant-Denny Stadium for games, the assumption between multiple sports media sources concludes that capacity will hover around 20% percent.

What does this mean for students? There is a vast amount of uncertainty around how many students will be allowed in; however, considering that it is a college football game, the university would be hard-pressed to not let in students that pay for and attend that college.

How will this impact the casual Tide fan? Obviously, since there is a limited stadium capacity and a truncated season, there will be less tickets available to the general public. Most likely, the highest donors for Alabama’s athletic department will be able to receive ticket packages. But ultimately, Alabama Football tickets will become a prized commodity for the 2020 season.

Other Power 5 schools such as Florida State, Ohio State, and Texas have plans to cap the amount of college football fans their respective stadiums around 20%-25%.

While we don’t know who or where the Crimson Tide will play in their first game of the season, according to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey the opening day for football is September 26.
