In an effort to combat hunger and provide support to those in need, the Tuscaloosa Salvation Army is hosting its annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Tuscaloosa River Market. The event is from 11am-1pm on Jack Warner Parkway. This heartwarming event, sponsored by the Tuscaloosa Women's Auxiliary, promises not only a delightful culinary experience but also a chance to contribute to a noble cause.

For a nominal fee of $25.00 per person, attendees will not only enjoy a delicious bowl of soup but will also take home a symbolic empty bowl as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against hunger. The empty bowl is a powerful symbol representing the hunger faced by many in the West Alabama community.

For your help you will receive:

1. Soup: A variety of soups prepared by local chefs and volunteers will be available, catering to different tastes and preferences.

2. Empty Bowl Keepsake: Each attendee will receive a beautiful handcrafted empty bowl, symbolizing the empty bowls many individuals face daily due to food insecurity.

3. Dessert and Bread: Indulge your sweet tooth with delectable desserts from Tuscaloosa restaurants, complemented by freshly baked bread to complete your meal.

This year's Empty Bowls Fundraiser is proudly sponsored by the Tuscaloosa Women's Auxiliary. The Auxiliary, dedicated to supporting the Salvation Army's mission, plays a crucial role in organizing and promoting events like these that contribute to the community's well-being.

To add an extra layer of excitement to the event, a silent auction will be held, featuring a variety of items generously donated by local businesses and individuals. This presents a unique opportunity for attendees to not only contribute through their attendance but also through participating in the auction.

Tickets for the Empty Bowls Fundraiser can be purchased for $25.00 per person by calling 205-632-3691 or emailing Lt. Schelika Chisolm at schelika.chisolm@uss.salvationarmy.org. The proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will go directly towards supporting the Tuscaloosa Salvation Army's initiatives in providing food assistance and other essential services to those in need.

The Tuscaloosa Salvation Army Empty Bowls Fundraiser is not just a culinary event but a heartfelt initiative to make a difference in the lives of those facing hunger. By joining this event, you not only treat yourself to a delightful meal but also become a part of a community effort to combat food insecurity. Let's come together on February 1st at the Tuscaloosa River Market to fill empty bowls and hearts with hope and compassion.
