Tuscaloosa Pastor of the Week: Rev. Dr. Lonnie Weaver
Praise 93.3 & 790 WTSK presents our Tuscaloosa Pastor of the Week Rev. Dr. Lonnie Weaver, senior pastor of the St. Paul Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
Rev. Dr. Lonnie Weaver, a Greensboro, Alabama native, is the son of the late Robert Weaver Sr. and Mrs. Rosa Weaver. After graduating from Greensboro Public School East Campus in 1980, where he was recognized by his peers as "Most Likely to Succeed" and honored as a member of the National Honor Society, he answered the call to ministry in June 1983. Just a year later, he became the pastor of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, serving faithfully for seven years.
In 1991, Pastor Weaver was called to Liberty Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, where he ministered for four years. He then led New Canaan Baptist Church in Aliceville from 1995 to 2020, dedicating 25 years of service. In February 2021, Dr. Weaver took on his current role as the Senior Pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Additionally, he founded The Sanctuary of Hope Church in Tuscaloosa in 2016.
Dr. Weaver's educational journey is marked by excellence. In 2005, he earned an Associate of Science degree with honors from Shelton State Community College. Recognized for his academic achievement, he was admitted to seminary without needing further undergraduate studies. He enrolled at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated with honors from the Morehouse School of Religion in 2009, specializing in Pastoral Care and Counseling. During his studies, he received multiple awards, including the Sandy F. Ray Award for Preaching, the Alabama Power Company Award for Excellence, and the Fanny and Joe Wheeler Merit Award.
In 2012, Dr. Weaver joined the ACTS Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) program in Chicago, Illinois, earning his degree in Preaching in 2015. His thesis, *Preaching to the Heir: Calling African American Men Back to Congregational Life*, reflects his dedication to ministry and community.
Dr. Weaver is married to Mrs. Alicia Chatman Weaver, and together, they continue to serve and inspire the Tuscaloosa community.
