Willie Townsend Jr., was born and raised in Tuscaloosa County and he eight of eleven children of Willie Townsend Sr. and Luevina Townsend. Townsend is a 1978 graduate of Holt High School in Holt, Alabama. He attended Shelton State C.A. Fredd campus, graduated with a degree in Graphic Arts and Design.
Pastor Townsend was ordained and licensed to preach at the age of 19 under the leadership of the late Bishop George T. Craig. Townsend is married to his childhood sweetheart Cassandra Williams, and they have three adult children including two daughters and a son and eleven grandchildren. Pastor Townsend was installed as the senior pastor of the Mt. Sinai Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa off of Highway 69 South on LaGrone Road in 1995, and he is still laboring in the ministry at the church.
Townsend worked for the University of Alabama for 29 years in printing and graphics until he retired in 2017. He loves his hobbies which include collecting model cars and bowling.
