Our Tuscaloosa Pastor of the Week is Pastor Michael Foster of the First African Baptist Church. Pastor Foster is the 23rd pastor of the First African Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa and was installed in 2019, after Pastor Richard Morgan.
Pastor Michael Anthony Foster, a native of Brundidge, Alabama was born August 02, 1971. After graduating from Pike County High School, he pursed a career in law enforcement where he graduated from the Alabama Advanced Criminal Justice Academy in Montgomery, Alabama. Rev. Foster furthered his education by graduating from the Enterprise State Community College in Enterprise, Alabama where he received an Associate Degree in Social Science, Personal Administration. He graduated from Troy University, in Troy, Alabama with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science, Public Administration; he continued to enrich his learning experience by earning a Master Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Troy University where he later taught in the discipline as a professor. He graduated with an additional Master’s Degree in Theology from the University of Mobile’s School of Religion with the prestigious highest Graduate School of Christian Studies Achievement Award and with Academic Distinction Honors. He has ambitions to further his lifelong learning dream by receiving a Doctorate of Divinity.
In 1997, Pastor Foster received the call into the Gospel Ministry as Associate Minister at the Union Missionary Baptist Church, in Brundidge, Alabama where he served faithfully. In 1999, Rev. Foster was ordained and called to the position of Senior Pastor of The Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, Alabama where he served as pastor for 20 years. Rev. Foster’s teaching philosophy is “in order for the 21stcentury church and to be successful it must incorporate evangelism and discipleship as integral priorities in its ministry strategies, and it is the church that has the awesome responsibility of transforming sinners into saints, the helpless into the helpful and believers into Christians”. He began this fervent drive of teaching by instructing laymen and deacons in spiritual growth and maturity that would later prove to be valuable in the spiritual development of the entire area. Within a couple of years, he began teaching Pastors, Ministers, and Leaders in the local Southeast District Association of Butler & Crenshaw Counties. By 2002, he served in the capacity of Vice-President of the Southeast District Congress of Christian Education. In 2005, he was elected President of Southeast District Congress of Christian Education, where he served faithfully until 2015; at that time, he was elected Moderator of the Southeast District of Butler & Crenshaw Counties. He is also a member of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
Pastor Foster is married to the absolute love of his life, the former Beverly D. Kidd, he is a fanatical bible teacher, as well as a powerful and passionate gospel preacher. Pastor Foster has motivated and inspired thousands throughout the length and breadth of this country. He believes the bible in its entirety, he believes we can have what it says we can have, be what it says we can be, and do what it says we can do. Through the Anointing of God’s Precious Holy Spirit, Pastor Foster has a unique gift of reaching the young and inspiring the old leaving them saying “Preach Michael Foster!”
