Men of Prayze Make Alabama Gospel Music History

In a breathtaking moment at the 40th annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, Tuscaloosa’s own gospel ensemble, Men of Prayze, achieved a milestone that will resonate throughout Alabama’s musical legacy. Taking home the Quartet of the Year award on that momentous night, they became the first quartet from Alabama ever to be so honored. The group were nominated for their project "Live In The Red" that was recorded at Cornerstone Full Gospel Baptist Church on EvoWorld Music under the leadership of gospel sensation Lisa Knowles-Smith. EvoWorld also had Tuscaloosa quartet favorites Blest By Four on the final ballot as nominees.
Held at Nashville’s prestigious Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the 2025 Stellar Gospel Music Awards celebrated the year’s most outstanding achievements in gospel music. It was here that Men of Prayze captured the attention—and hearts—of fans and critics alike.
Formed in 2007, Men of Prayze (often called MOP) was founded by original members Anthony Moore, LeNard Tremayne Smith, Fred Brown, Jasper Williams, Calvin Prince, and Dennis Mitchell. The group’s current roster includes Moore, Smith, Brandon Witherspoon, and Chris Evans.
Over nearly two decades, the ensemble has released several recordings, including their debut album I Love You (2010), and became widely celebrated for the fan favorite track “He’s A Wonder,” which soared to No. 1 on the Indie Gospel Charts. This recognition isn’t just a trophy—it’s a defining moment in Alabama’s local music history. As the first Alabama quartet to claim a Stellar Award, Men of Prayze have not only elevated their own profile but also highlighted the growing impact of southern gospel talent on the national stage.
Social media quickly buzzed with congratulations and pride. The group shared jubilantly, “Lord we thank you!!! Quartet of the Year – THE Men Of Prayze‼️ #LiveInTheRed #MOP #StellarAwards2025” on their Facebook page, while others echoed the excitement with similar messages of support and admiration.
With this prestigious accolade now added to their legacy, Men of Prayze stand poised for new opportunities—greater visibility, larger venues, collaborative projects, and perhaps a renewed creative direction. Their win serves as both validation of their artistry and inspiration for the broader gospel community in Alabama and beyond.
