I often wonder what makes people do what they do. Why do people say certain things? Not do certain things? How do people fall into a life of crime? How do people get involved in mind-blowing crimes? Some crimes that people commit even have them sitting on death row.

What about women? I’m a woman and I’ve done some crazy things over my life span but no “for real” crimes. Sure, speeding tickets, and I may have jumped a fence to get into a nightclub while underage. However, I couldn’t imagine committing a crime that leads me to death row.

But, are there any women on death row?

Currently according to Ranker, “there are 51 women currently on Death Row in the United States, with women on Death Row in 17 states, along with one woman awaiting execution for federal crimes. The crimes of female Death Row inmates always include murder, but usually under special circumstances that juries feel merit the ultimate punishment.”

Of those 51 women on Death Row, their crimes range from murdering their husband, children, or someone they know. The killings involved stabbings, burning someone alive, crazy plots of kidnapping, robberies that turn to murder, and the list goes on and on.

I couldn’t believe it. How can a woman murder her child? That’s heartbreaking on so many levels.
