A double shooting in Tuscaloosa Saturday that left two men dead may have been a family matter, police told local media hours after the incident.

Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said police were called to the 3000 block of 20th Street in West Tuscaloosa around 6:15 p.m. on reports of a shooting.

Two men were found shot inside a home there, and both were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center.

One victim, 66-year-old Mitchell Lewis, succumbed to his injuries and died. The second man died early Sunday morning, Sellers said.

Police believe 30-year-old Devin Martez Quinzy is responsible for the shooting and said he is related to one of the victims.

Quinzy reportedly left the scene of the shooting in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, but later spoke to police by phone and turned himself in in the parking lot of a local business on Highway 69 South,

Quinzy was originally charged with one count each of murder and attempted murder and remained jailed Sunday morning.

UPDATE, 9:15 A.M.: The second victim in this case has died, marking the fourth double murder in the county so far in 2022. Additional details are expected later Sunday.

UPDATE, 11 A.M.: Sellers has identified the second victim as 64-year-old Kenny Walker, the suspect's father. Because both victims died, the charges against Quinzy have been upgraded to capital murder and he will be held without bond.
