Claims of Self-Defense Arise in Deadly Sunday Shooting at Tuscaloosa Apartments
Police are investigating claims that a deadly shooting at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex this weekend was an act of self-defense.
Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the VCU, said in a release that no arrests have been made. The identity of the victim has also not been publicly released.
Kennedy said the investigation is still ongoing, but most if not all of the persons of interest have been identified, evidence has been collected and "issues of self-defense have been raised in this case."
He said once the investigation is complete, the facts will be presented to a grand jury that will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
Kennedy said anyone with information on the incident, including witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, should contact the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.
