The SEC has officially announced it will opt for a 10 game, conferene only schedule this fall with the first week happening September 26.  An article from Al.com details that the official announcement will come at 3:45pm CT, but close sources have confirmed the news.

The SEC's presidents and chancellors held a virtual meeting today to discuss the ACC's decision and how the SEC would be moving forward.  The SEC will be playing a 10 game conference-only schedule, and has decided to move the start date back to September 26th.

An all-SEC schedule would fall in line with many other major conferences like the Big-10, Pac-12, but what this could mean for the season as a whole is unknown. SEC Commissioner, Greg Sankey issued a comment in the SEC's official press release.

"This new plan for a football schedule is consistent with the educational goals of our universities to allow for the safe and orderly return to campus of their student populations and to provide a healthy learning environment during these unique circumstances presented by the COVID-19 virus," Sankey said. "This new schedule supports the safety measures that are being taken by each of our institutions to ensure the health of our campus communities."

This will mean the SEC will not play traditional cross-conference rivals like Florida State, Louisville, Clemson or Georgia Tech this year.

For the Crimson Tide this eliminates the speculation that the Crimson Tide will open the season with BYU.

Will the SEC leave the schedule in-tact or will we see a re-engineering of the order of the schedule?
