SCLC Hosts Amazing MLK Jr. Day Car Parade In Tuscaloosa

Today, in Tuscaloosa and all over the nation, we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Beulah Baptist Church served as the meetup place for dozens of cars this morning as we prepared to celebrate Dr. MLK Jr. with a car parade. The Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference hosted this car parade which is usually a march. Due to COVID-19, they made a minor adjustment to the annual event.

It was great to see Tuscaloosa community members out in their cars ready for the parade. Of course 105.1 The Block was ready in our station vehicle as well as our sister station 92.9 WTUG! It felt good to see members of the Tuscaloosa County Chapter of NPHC out representing their organizations and I spotted the T-Town Freedom Marchers and community leaders out ready to celebrate Dr. King.

One of the best parts of the event was before we pulled off to start the parade. Speaking with everyone in attendance and seeing their car decorations. Everyone's energy was just so uplifting and loving. The car decorations were amazing! Community members went out of their way to paint portraits of Dr. King, printed pictures, and had balloons and sound systems all on their cars for the parade.

Every year, the third Monday in the month of January is recognized as a federal holiday. It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Although his actual birthday is January, 15th, this is the day we typically celebrate his birthday and legacy. Happy MLK Jr. Day!
