Potential Severe Weather Threat For Tonight

We are currently are under a “slight risk” category from the National Weather Service for a potential severe weather threat, starting Wednesday evening into Thursday early morning hours.  At of the time of this blog post, the threat timing for our area is between 8 pm, and 1 am.  With a slight risk, there is the possibility of damaging winds up to 60 mph and a brief tornado.  The issue that is concerning to me is that we have several days of rain which means the ground is very saturated.  In the possibility of winds, this could mean trees are very vulnerable in these conditions.  Also, there could be ½ to 1 inch of rain which brings the thought of possible flooding issues due to the previous rain totals.

From the National Weather Service Birmingham’s Facebook page, they reported that “Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected overnight. The main threat is damaging winds up to 60 mph, which could easily knock down trees in wet soil. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Heavy rain over areas already saturated will cause a continued flooding threat.”
