Open Door Policy

At times Christians follow an "open door" policy. When the door of opportunity opens, we assume that it's God's Will and our designated time for this door to open and for us to walk through. This is certainly not the case in all circumstances nor time frames. The door that opens may not really be for you to walk through at that time. Timing is the essential key to success..

A close colleague of mine knows very well that this is true. This colleague never openly rebelled against God, however, he found himself far away from God alter walking through  open doors of opportunity. He once said to me, "I had allowed myself to believe that God was blessing my career . . . because He had opened doors". Although this colleague received what he wanted- a successful career in the education arena - he had lost what he really needed, a close relationship with God. When reality set-in and an admission that this career was keeping him from God, he abandoned success and gained a renewed commitment to the Lord.

Because the Lord does not stop us from something, does not indicate that He desires for us to continue.  To discern which opportunities to pursue, each of us need to "approve the very things that are excellent" and to become filled with righteousness ...to God's glory"(Philippians 1:10-11).

It's like when you cook a cake or other foods, there is a recipe that must be followed. Wouldn't it be nice if our lives were similar? Simply follow a few easy steps and then enjoy the wonderful results.
