A 28-year-old Tuscaloosa man is dead after a shooting at an apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Lt. Jack Kennedy, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said police were called to Timberlane II Apartments around 4 p.m. Monday and found the victim, Richard Earl Jenkins, Jr., shot in the head.

Jenkins was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center, but it was too late to help him and he was pronounced dead there.

Kennedy said Jenkins was arguing with a 29-year-old woman named Sheneka Hoskins, over the ownership of property they shared, and as the argument became heated, the two began to argue over ownership of a handgun.

In a struggle between them, the handgun was fired and Jenkins was struck in the head.

Kennedy said police have reason to believe Hoskins was the aggressor in the altercation that ultimately led to Jenkins' death and have charged her with manslaughter.

She was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where her bond was set at $30,000.
