United Way of West Alabama Sets Goal to Raise $4.5M
United Way of West Alabama (UWWA) announced their new fundraising goal on Tuesday.
The announcement was made at UWWA's campaign kickoff luncheon, held at the Bryant Conference Center on the UA campus.
UWWA set their 2023 fundraising goal at $4.5 million. Funds raised in the campaign will support West Alabama nonprofits like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Five Horizons, and the Salvation Army.
Julie Mann, VP of Communications for UWWA, said, "It was a great event with about 700 of our friends there." She noted that the $4.5 million goal would be the highest ever raised for the local organization.
"Usually we don't set a goal higher than what it was the year before," said Mann. However, she said the increased funds will go to support new agencies UWWA has partnered with. Some of these include the Theo Ratliff Activity Center in Demopolis and Tuscaloosa's One Place.
Mann said recent inflation also calls for a more aggressive fundraising goal. "With inflation and rising costs and everything," she said, "everyone's feeling a bit of a pinch."
Individual contributions can be donated on the UWWA website or by visiting the Tuscaloosa United Way location on 2720 6th Street.
"We're excited to get everyone united as a community," said Mann.
