A head-on collision in west Alabama on Tuesday evening has killed a 16-year-old high school student and a 75-year-old man and injured five other people, including two very young children and another teenager.

Sergeant Reginal M. King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers, said the tragic accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday about five miles outside of Uniontown in Marengo County.

King said 75-year-old Authur L. Mendenhall was driving a 2012 Ram 1500 when it collided head-on with a 2013 Nissan Altima that was being driven by a 16-year-old juvenile.

Both Mendenhall and the 16-year-old were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident - ALEA does not identify juvenile victims in fatal crashes, but Demopolis High School said on Wednesday that the victim was a junior there, Braleigh Busbee.

Two adult women, a 5-year-old, and a 3-year-old who were riding in the Ram were all injured and transported to area hospitals for treatment.

A 17-year-old riding with Busbee in the Nissan was also injured and was airlifted to a hospital.

King said the fatal accident happened on U.S. 80 near Mile Marker 48, which is about five miles west of Uniontown.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
