Two Arrested in Stolen Vehicle Incident that Caused Multiple Car Crash on Skyland Boulevard
The Tuscaloosa Police Department announced the arrest of two men in connection with a car theft that caused a multiple car accident and drew a large police presence to Skyland Boulevard Monday afternoon.
A release from TPD said investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division received information that a truck stolen in Tennessee had been spotted at Branscomb Apartments.
Units responded to the complex, located in the 600 block of 61st Street at 1:20 p.m., and approached two suspects, who then "jumped into a car and headed north on Alabama Highway 69."
The release said the driver turned east onto Skyland Boulevard and crashed into a vehicle, which struck a third vehicle. No one was seriously injured in the incident, however one person was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment.
After the wrecks, witnesses said short foot pursuits led police and the suspects through through a flooded drainage ditch off Skyland and close to if not inside the nearby Walk-Ons Sports Bistreaux.
The release said the suspects were quickly apprehended in the parking lot of Tuscaloosa Plaza shopping center. Investigators later recovered marijuana and a stolen pistol from the suspect’s crashed car.
Keshawn Martez McCollough, 26, of Greensboro, was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property and attempting to elude.
Frederick Dewayne Lewis, 20, of Moundville, was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree receiving stolen property, first degree possession of marijuana and attempting to elude.
McCollough remains in the Tuscaloosa County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon on a $36,000 bond. The release said Lewis's bond has not been set.
