"We're Number One" is not just a sports rallying cry for the Crimson Tide; it is an annual ritual at the Tuscaloosa Farmers Market on the banks of the Black Warrior River downtown. For the fifth year in a row, the facility has been named best in Alabama in the America's Farmers Market Celebration Awards.

Farmers markets and supporters across the country vote online each year for the market they consider best. For five consecutive years in Alabama, that has been Tuscaloosa Farmers Market.

The market is in a prime location and features a variety of vendors, from area farmers to craftsmen and bakers, at 1900 Jack Warner Parkway.

Unlike many farmers' markets, Tuscaloosa's is open year-round, each Saturday from 7:00 am to noon. It is also canine-friendly. There is also a Tuesday Market during June and July from 3 pm – 7 pm.

"Winning Best Farmers Market in Alabama for the fifth year in a row is pretty cool, and we’re definitely celebrating! Putting together a great line-up of farmers market vendors is kind of like curating a museum. We start early each year filling about 8 empty spots in the market, and retention among our 70 vendors is high. Having this great space, the Tuscaloosa River Market, which is owned and operated by the City of Tuscaloosa, is awesome for our vendors and shoppers alike." Tuscaloosa River Market Operations Director Alexis proudly remarked.

You will not be alone when you visit the farmer's market. Clark says they serve some 3,000 customers at the free market each Saturday. The parking lots are often full, but they have carts available to pick you up at your car, deposit you at the market, and return you with your purchases.

The market often provides live music by local performers, including the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. Every third Saturday, children can enjoy crafts and taste challenges through the free POP (Power of Produce) Kids' Club.

A visit to the award-winning Tuscaloosa Farmers Market is truly a family outing.
