Southview Elementary School’s Rising Star Student of the Month: Deanna Davis

Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three outstanding TCS students will be highlighted in this series.

Fifth grader Deanna Davis is Southview Elementary School's Rising Star Character Student of the Month!

Davis received the award during a presentation in front of the entire fifth grade class Monday morning. Davis said being supported by her peers and grandmother at the presentation made her feel "warm inside."

She said she was excited to be honored for making others at Southview feel special.

"I feel great because I do what I have to do to make other people feel like they are welcomed here," Davis said. ""I've been at Southview from first through fifth grade so I feel special."

Smith is a library helper at Southview and said having a great attitude is one way she demonstrates good character to other students.

"I just show people what they deserve and show them what they should give to others," Davis said. "I want them to grow up and try to be somebody who shows great attitude and character to other people."

Davis' favorite subject is reading and enjoys cheerleading and gymnastics.

Olivia Davis, Deanna's grandmother said she was extremely proud of her for being a shining light to other students and encourages other students to learn from her.

"Words cannot express the joy that I have to know that not only is my granddaughter seen being an example to others, but that everybody can see that no matter where you come from or who you are, all you have to do is put your mind to it and be nice to people," Davis said. "Do what you know is right. Treat people how you would want them to treat you and it will all pay off in the end."
