A restaurant from a celebrated Mississippi chef is officially open for business in downtown Tuscaloosa, where they'll be serving breakfast and lunch seven days a week.

As the Thread previously reported, Ron and April Woodis, the restaurateurs behind the Taziki's in Midtown Village have partnered with James Beard Award-winning chef John Currence of Oxford, Mississippi to bring his Big Bad Breakfast concept to the Druid City.

Now, after a complete redesign and build-out of a previously vacant spot on 19th Avenue, the restaurant is open to the public and somehow manages to feel like a longtime member of the local landscape.

The building's exposed brick, high ceilings, implementation of natural light and Crimson Tide-themed decor all fit right in.

Ron Woodis told the Thread they've hired around 45 employees and will be open every day at 7 a.m. but leave dinner and late-night service to other joints and stick to what's on the sign, closing at 2:30 p.m.

They serve breakfast of all stripes, including their signature black pepper and buttermilk cat head biscuits, egg-centered breakfast skillets in cast iron dishes, pancakes and waffles and French toast, omelets and much more, plus sandwiches and salads for lunch.

A complement of coffees, cold brews and fresh-squeezed juices rounds out the menu.

 

The 19th Avenue location is spacious, with seating both upstairs and downstairs and an open-air kitchen where you can watch the staff work.
