The Mississippi Highway Patrol has identified three Cottondale men who were killed in a van crash that also injured five other West Alabama residents not far from the Louisiana border Monday morning.

Trooper First Class Darnika Mayfield told the Thread that MHP Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Warren County around 4:50 a.m. Monday.

A 2012 Ford E350 XL was traveling west when it ran off the road and collided with a tree, Mayfield said.

Two passengers were declared dead at the scene of the crash. The driver suffered minor injuries, and he and four additional passengers were transported to area hospitals where one later succumbed to his injuries and died.

The three men who have died are 25-year-old Serigo Romon Martinez, 44-year-old Mariano Perez Mejia and 43-year-old Eligio Aguilar Emiliano.

All eight people in the van were from Cottonale, Alabama Mayfield said.
