At least two people were injured Friday night in a series of wrecks on Northport's McFarland Boulevard, police told the Thread.

Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, said that officers believe a motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle near the 3200 block of McFarland Boulevard and the shopping center that houses Guthries of Northport.

Soon after, another vehicle apparently trying to avoid hitting the motorcyclist in the road or some other part of the original wreck, then swerved and struck a sign or pole off the roadway.

Carpenter said two people were hurt and responding officers said some of the injuries were serious, but he did not have information on if they were life-threatening.

The two wrecks drew a large police presence to the area Friday night around 9 p.m. Motorists should avoid the area for now.
