Longtime West Alabama Educator Named Interim Superintendent of Tuscaloosa County Schools
A West Alabama educator with a decades-long resume has been named the interim superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System after his predecessor, Keri Johnson, was hired away last month.
As the Thread previously reported, Dr. Johnson accepted an offer to lead the Pelham City Schools last month.

The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education met on Thursday and unanimously voted to appoint Dan Butler as interim superintendent of TCSS.
It's a job he's held before, from March 2012 until June 2013, and Butler also had a long tenure as superintendent in Hale County.
A TCSS news release said Butler has been in education for 41 years and has spoken very highly of the System here for it's quality of staff and student opportunities.
A TCSS spokesperson said the board of education also voted to establish the process and timeline to make a full-time hire. The job posting for the position will go live tomorrow, Friday, the 12th, and will remain open for at least 30 days.
"It is our goal to move the process as quickly as possible, yet take the necessary time to find the right leader for our school system," TCSS Board President Bill Squires said in a statement. "We will share updates on this process as they are available. Again, identifying the right person to lead the Tuscaloosa County School System is our highest priority."
