In Tuscaloosa, the Parks and Rec Authority will be holding a special Veterans Day Program in Snow Hinton Park that morning.

But even though those in the military get recognized across the South, one Alabama city does not treat our veterans as well as we'd like.

Recent reports from WalletHub revealed the best and worst cities for veterans across the country. The organization looked at major cities in the U.S., considering different factors like veteran employment, educational opportunities, and VA benefits.

Of the 100 locations polled in the study, here are the Top 5 Best Cities for Veterans:

  1. Raleigh, North Carolina
  2. Austin, Texas
  3. Orlando, Florida
  4. Tampa, Florida
  5. Virginia Beach, Virginia

Treating Veterans Right

An analyst from WalletHub said, "Various factors can influence how good or bad a city is for veterans, from the quality of the city's VA Facilities and its retirement-friendliness to the poverty, unemployment and homelessness rates."

More often than not, "military spending" goes towards national defense rather than helping our veterans.

Alabama definitely has some work to do as well. Birmingham, Alabama, was the only city to make the list, ranking at number 78. Not the worst of the bunch....but definitely not a very respectable place.
