Super 8 Demolished With Something “HUGE” Coming To Old McFarland Mall Site
There was the sound of progress in the air on a cold Monday morning.
A monster excavator appeared ready to eat the Super 8 motel, sitting adjacent to the old McFarland Mall property.

Businessman Stan Pate and District 7 councilman Cassius Lanier joined the 95.3 Bear STEVE & DC Morning Show to talk about “Project X”.
Project X is the name given to what’s coming to the old McFarland Mall site at McFarland & Skyland.
Councilman Lanier said, “It will blow your mind. It is huge, and folks countywide will love it”.
Stan Pate said, “It ain’t no beach, and it’s better than Buc-ee’s”.
When will Project X be revealed in its entirety?
Pate said, “Big boys like confidentiality; it will be up to the people involved”.
And the Super Eight came crumbling down. Pate jokingly referred to it as a “roach coach”.
Pate added that Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox had been “darn good to work with…good teamwork”.
Lanier said in 2026, we will see Project X get underway. Stan Pate described himself as the most impatient, patient person when it comes to finally getting this done. Cassius Lanier said, “Before you can rebuild something, you must tear it down”. He said, “This project is not remodeling”.
Lanier also revealed that the Motel 6 property will be condemned and torn down in a process that is scheduled to begin on January 6, 2026.
Here's the whole conversation....
