DEMOPOLIS, Ala. -- If you prefer an extra side of points with your football game, Demopolis High School was the place to be Friday night. Demopolis welcomed Sipsey Valley in what turned out to be an all-out track meet.

The game began with Sipsey Valley force-feeding what looked to be their star running back, Isiah Bennett, as he took them all the way down the field for a 7-0 lead. However, on the second play of the game for Demopolis, Bennett went down while on defense and never returned.

While I had originally thought Sipsey’s offense would nosedive, they simply went and started feeding what looked to be one of the best receivers in West Alabama. Trent Cole absolutely took the game over tonight, to the tune of over 200 yards and five total touchdowns. Three of his five touchdowns came from over 50 yards out, showcasing his elite ability after the catch.

Demopolis didn’t exactly no-show on offense; quarterback Whit Goodwin maneuvered his team down the field all night long, leaning primarily on running backs Braylen Wallace and Aidan Burns, who together put up three touchdowns.

Sipsey never trailed in the game, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Demopolis hung around all night long, but fell just short of a potential game-tying touchdown. Goodwin and the rest of the offense had one last play inside the 15-yard line to try and even it up, but the ball fell harmlessly to the grass after a scramble drill from Goodwin resulted in an incompletion.

I would have bet anything that the team with the ball last would have won tonight, but Sipsey Valley was able to make one last stop when it counted the most.
