The Hillcrest Patriots earned a statement win on Friday night, travelling to the greater Birmingham area for a date with the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies, who were a regional foe of the Patriots last season when both played in the 7A classification last year.

Last season, Hewitt-Trussville shut out the Patriots 24-0 in Tuscaloosa in the regional matchup. Now, the Patriots are back in 5A, with Hewitt-Trussville in the largest classification in 6A, but the result went in favor of the Patriots on the Huskies' home field, largely in part due to a phenomenal night from Hillcrest running back Jacobi Harris.

Hewitt-Trussville led early 14-0, but the Patriots didn't quit on Friday night, clawing their way back into the game with a Jacobi Harris score. The Huskies drove down the field and had the ball first and goal, but Hillcrest forced the fumble and recovered it. Two plays later, Harris raced downfield for an 8-yard touchdown. After the Patriots tied it at 14 all, Hillcrest carried all the momentum, forcing two interceptions on Hewitt-Trussville quarterback Jack Flloyd, who was held in check in the second half.

Hewitt-Trussville scored 50 points last week in their win over Auburn and had less than 50 yards in the second half, showcasing the resiliency and physicality of the Patriot defense in Friday night's 42-20 victory. Harris finished the night with over 250 total yards of offense, including 241 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Hillcrest moves to 2-0 on the season, with a road trip to rival Hueytown on the books for next week to open the month of September.
