Bryant Stampede Announce New Head Football Coach
Big news for Paul W. Bryant High School as they announce their new head coach for the 2024-25 football season. Today, as of 10:40 a.m. (August 2nd, 2024). Christion Jones is named head coach of the Bryant High School football program.
New Bryant football head coach, 31-year-old Christion Jones, played high school football at Minor; a former wide receiver and kick returner for the Alabama Crimson Tide winning two National Titles, under coach Nick Saban. Coach Jones was a member of the Miami Dolphins practice squad (2015-16) before eventually moving on to play in the CFL (Canadian Football League).
Bryant High School went 3-7 in the 2023 season, finishing in sixth place in 6A, Region 4, last year under head coach John McKenzie, who has returned to the Mobile area to coach Vigor High School (Prichard, Alabama) where he previously coached in the past, winning a state championship.
Coach Jones spoke during this morning's press conference talking to parents, players, and staff on what to expect from him in the upcoming season.
"I'm going to do my due diligence and make sure, that I'm here every day...I'm going to make sure whatever you guys need, I can provide it. I have already told my staff we are going to micro-manage these kids to the teeth...in everything that they do." - Christion Jones
When asked about using his resources to make these young men the best they can be, Coach Jones vowed to use every resource he has to put these kids in the eyes of college coaches, not just as athletes, but as student-athletes, which Jones emphasizes on many times throughout the press conference.
Coach Jones also spoke to these young men about how football teaches about life.
"Also, fixing the mistakes you've made previously; you have to be mentally tough to do that," said Coach Jones.
"I can guarantee you this, young men, you're going to face adversity in life...something bad will happen. It is also going to be resembled on the field...something bad is going to happen on the field. But it's not what happened to you... it's about how you respond to what happened to you." - Christion Jones
When asked by the media what it would take to instill the same if not greater mentality he has, into this Bryant football program, head coach Christion Jones replied..."It's just all about how we approach, how we challenge them every day to be able to go out and do what they need to do." Coach Jones will also focus on "dominating your space" which he says is "to make sure everyone is taking care of their responsibility and doing their job."
Promising years ahead for Bryant High School football. As the season is right around the corner, the Paul W. Bryant Stampede start their season on August 23rd, 2024, at home against Percy Julian High School Phoenix (Montgomery, AL) at 7:00 p.m. with their second game also at home against Coach Jones' high school Alma Mater, the Minor High School Tigers (Adamsville, AL) at 7:00 p.m. August 30th, 2024.
