The Hueytown Gophers were victorious Friday night against the Paul W. Bryant Stampede. The Gophers won in convincing fashion 75-7 to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Senior quarterback Earl Woods III had a huge game for Hueytown, scoring seven total touchdowns. Woods III scored three through the air and four on the ground.
Woods III got the scoring started on Hueytown's first drive of the game as the senior would find the end zone on an 11-yard touchdown run.
Bryant answered back for their one and only touchdown of the game on a Kevin Brown 52-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage for the Stampede.
The Gophers answered on the ensuing drive as junior running back Ja'Khael Rowser matched the Stampede with a 52-yard touchdown run of his own to make the score 14-7.
On the next Gopher possession Woods III found the end zone again. This time on a 12-yard keeper to expend the lead.
The Stampede went three-and-out on their next drive giving the ball back to Wood III in company. Woods III found Elijah Brown on a 55-yard pass and after a late hit out of bounds the Gophers had the ball at the 2-yard line and two plays late Woods punched it in from the one to make the score 28-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Brown got his chance to carry the rock for the Gophers by picking up first downs at will and driving the ball deep into Bryant territory. Woods III finished it off by scoring his fourth rushing touchdown early in the second quarter from seven yards out to give the Gophers a 35-7 lead.
After a Tyree Hines interception the Gophers got the ball back and Woods III found Dacorion Thomas for a 27-yard touchdown pass to make it 42-7.
Hueytown recovered an onside kick that gave it back to the Gophers. Woods connected with Thomas yet again for junior's second touchdown of the night. This time on a 53-yard touchdown pass.
The Gophers defense got another takeaway, this time an interception by junior defensive back Kameron Kynard to give it right back to the Gophers. With nine seconds left to go before halftime Woods III found Rowser on a screen pass that went 32-yards for a Gopher touchdown and the junior's second of the night to make the score 55-7.
The Hueytown offense would score three more times in the second half to make the final score 75-7.
