Two West Alabama school systems have cancelled their fall athletics in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

al.com reports that both the Greene County and Sumter County School Systems will not participate in volleyball, cross-country, and football for the first nine weeks of the 2020-2021 academic school year.

Local school systems are allowed to choose to participate or opt out following last week's announcement from the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

Sumter Central High School was scheduled to begin its football season with an August 28th game against Choctaw County, while Greene County High had its season opener against Aliceville August 21st.
