Tuscaloosa is mourning the loss of beloved junior chef Fuller Goldsmith.

Fuller, a Tuscaloosa Academy student, competed on "Chopped Junior" at the age of 14, winning first place in the competition. He was well known for his giving spirit and charitable efforts for others, as his $10,000 grand prize was all donated to the Division of Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

Soon after, he competed in "Top Chef Junior" but had to leave the competition early due to his illness.

Fuller passed away at 17 after battling his fifth round of cancer. The lymphoblastic leukemia, which first appeared when Fuller was 3 years old, had returned for a fifth time in February of 2021.

His death was announced late Tuesday evening. He was 17.

Fuller’s funeral arrangements are set for Friday, Oct. 8, with a 10 a.m. visitation and a service following at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa.

According to Fuller's obituary, donations to Fuller's Fund are requested in lieu of flowers. To donate, send money to P.O. Box 2347, Tuscaloosa, AL 35403. Fuller's Fund is the Goldsmith family's way of directing monetary donations to different cancer centers and nonprofits around the state.
