A former University Of Alabama student will spend the next five years in federal prison for the theft of nearly $10,000 from the student loan funds of classmates and friends.

U.S. District Court Judge Madeline Hughes Haikala sentenced Briana Jackson, 22, of Sylacauga, to 5 years during a hearing in Birmingham.

Briana Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of Unauthorized Access to a Protected Computer under a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

She was also ordered to serve three years on probation under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office after her release.

She will report to prison August 20, 2015
