TFR: Shoot Fireworks in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Get Fined

Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue wants to remind Druid City residents that shooting fireworks in the city limits is illegal, with a maximum fine of $500. 

"Seriously. No fireworks. Zip. Zero," TFR said on its Facebook page. 

Although fireworks might be enjoyable at the moment, oftentimes they can become dangerous. TFR states that fireworks account for injury, fire, stress for kids, veterans, and pets.

Sparklers can also be dangerous to children as well as adults. TFR reported that sparklers account for a quarter of fireworks-related emergency room visits.

They burn up to 1,200 degrees, enough to cause third-degree burns. This temperature is higher than the point at which glass melts.

Although they are illegal for the community, there is still an opportunity to enjoy fireworks this Fourth of July. Attending a professional show will assure the safety of residents while also continuing the Independence Day tradition.

"...We encourage everyone to attend the Celebration on the River event where you can enjoy fireworks safely," TFR said on its Facebook page.

On Sunday, July 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater will host a free, family-friendly event. For all the details on Celebration on the River, click here. 

This event is presented by the City of Tuscaloosa and the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority. There will be many activities in the two hours, not just fireworks.

Starting at 6 p.m., there will be activities for children inside the Amphitheater. Following this, at 7:45 p.m. the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra will perform patriotic live music.

The fireworks will start at 9 p.m. after Mayor Walt Maddox speaks to attendants.

There will be limited parking at the Amphitheater, but there will be free parking at the Downtown Intermodal Facility.
