Alabama's Primary Runoff Election is right around the corner, and Secretary of State John Merrill wants to make sure every vote is counted – even the ones sent from home.

Today, July 13, is the last day absentee ballots will be accepted for tomorrow's election. Voters have two ways to get their ballot in before the end of the day: hand delivery and mail. If a voter is mailing in their ballot, it must be postmarked by today to be counted.

Tuscaloosa's Absentee Election Manager is Magaria Bobo. The address for hand-delivery or mail is:

714 Greensboro Avenue Rm 214,
Tuscaloosa, AL. 35401

Merrill commented on how this year's election process has changed, given the circumstances brought on by COVID-19. He urged Alabamians to still exercise their right to vote and perform their civic duty in whatever way made them most comfortable.

“After extending the opportunity for anyone concerned about COVID-19 to apply for and cast an absentee ballot, we have seen 43,693 absentee ballots applied for and look forward to their successful return as Alabama voters continue to voice their opinions in the elections process,” Merrill said in a press release.

For in-person voting tomorrow, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Though it is not required, wearing a mask while in the polling place is strongly encouraged by Attorney General Steve Marshall.

"Even in a jurisdiction that has mandated via ordinance the wearing of a mask, for instance, local election officials do not have the authority to add to the state’s established requirements for a voter to cast an in-person ballot," Marshall said in a written memorandum on July 7. "Turning a voter away for refusing to take recommended safety precautions would likely not survive constitutional scrutiny and is strongly discouraged. Note, however, that a voter may be directed to vote in a separate area, away from others, if his or her refusal to comply with health-related precautions presents a threat to those in the general voting area."
