Change Your Name?
Names are very important. Parents spend a lot of time, researching and deciding on the perfect name for their baby. Many times the final decision is based upon its sound, uniqueness, and meaning. Sometimes we adopt a new name because we disliked the original name. We mistakenly believe that changing it could alter its destiny. This is probably not likely, however, for those who trust in Jesus in their Savior and are from the time on identified by their name, a somewhat radical departure takes place.
There is a most powerful importance attached to the name of Jesus. The apostles performed miracles (Acts 3:6-7) and cast out demons in His name (Luke 10:17). They spoke and taught in the name of Jesus. They baptized believers in the name of Jesus (Acts 2:38). It is only through the name of Jesus that we gain access to the Father (Acts 4:12).
At which time that we become Christians, we share in that worthy name. We follow Christ, and are able to reflect His light to any darkness that we encounter, whether in our neighborhood, workplace and our homes. Our prayer should be that when people see us, they will see Christ. Our names perhaps have meaning. However to hear the name Christian is life-transforming. The name of Jesus is the only name with the power to cause this transformation.
