Brookwood Breaks Multiple Records in Big Win Over Sipsey Valley
The Brookwood Panthers (1-5) earned their first win of the season in convincing fashion, 76-35, over the Sipsey Valley Bears (2-4).
After being tied up 6-6 for most of the first quarter, the Panthers started to find their rhythm at the end of the quarter.
QB Jacob Smithson scored on a 13-yard rushing touchdown to put the Panthers up 12-6 with 44 seconds left.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Bears fumbled which gave the ball back to the Panthers. This led to a 2-yard touchdown run by RB Carson Capps extending the Panther lead to 20-6 with 3 seconds left in the first quarter.
Smithson and Capps proved to be a two headed monster for the Panthers, wearing out the Bears defense. Smithson went 7-of-8 passing for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns and he ran for 264 yards and four touchdowns. Capps ran for 152 yards on 18 attempts and had two touchdowns.
Sipsey Valley threatened as QB Max Barger threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Bailey making the score 27-20. This was the closest the Bears would get for the remainder of the game.
Barger finished with five passing touchdowns.
The Panthers added one more on a 1-yard touchdown run from Smithson, taking a 35-20 lead into the half.
The Panthers went on to dominate the rest of the game outscoring the Bears 41-14 in the second half.
This was the Panthers first true victory since 2019 and multiple records were broken. This record breaking performance included 76 total points, 531 team rushing yards, and 9 rushing touchdowns.
Brookwood head football coach Mike Bramblett was very proud of his team's performance in this game.
"Endurance was what we preached to our kids," said Bramblett. "If we continue playing like this, we might surprise some teams."
Sipsey Valley head coach Scott Marchant looks for improvement on his team going into next week.
"We played hard but we've got lots of improvements that we need to make, especially on defense," Marchant said.
The Bears host Marbury next week and the Panthers will travel to face McAdory.
