Pinson Valley senior defensive back Ga'Quincy "Kool-Aid" McKinstry has made a commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide. McKinstry is a 5-star prospect and is the No. 1 prospect and No. 1 cornerback in the 2021 class according to the 247 Composite.

McKinstry chose Alabama over numerous offers including Auburn and LSU. He becomes the 22nd member of the Alabama 2021 recruiting class. He was primarily recruited to Alabama by cornerbacks coach Karl Scott and defensive coordinator Pete Golding.

McKinstry joins a recruiting class that already has cornerbacks Kadarius Calloway, Devonta Smith and Khyree Jackson committed. Alabama is making a big push at corner this year due to the likely loss of Patrick Surtain II after this season.

McKinstry has made his intentions clear that he wants to play both football and basketball at the collegiate level as he is a gifted guard on the hardwood. Alabama's basketball coach Nate Oats has reportedly also offered him a scholarship to play basketball for the Tide.

McKinstry has helped Pinson Valley win football state championships in 2017 and 2018, he also helped the Indians win a state championship in basketball in 2018-19. He has led his team to a Class 6A Region 6 championship already this season.

Nick Saban has placed 17 defensive backs into the NFL Draft since his time at Alabama including seven first round draft picks as defensive backs. Playing for the Crimson Tide is one of the fastest ways to the NFL.
