The Alabama Crimson Tide (36-7) swept its out-of-conference two-game series against the Louisiana Rajin’ Cajuns (35-9) this weekend after winning game two 5-1. This time, Savannah Woodard secured the game for Alabama with a two-run inside-the-park home run.

“[This game is] going to help both schools down the stretch, and it was just a really good game today again," said head coach Patrick Murphy. "A good opponent, and a fun weekend, great weather, great fans.”

In the bottom of the second inning, Alabama put the first runs up on the board. Maddie Morgan led off the inning being hit by pitch. Savannah Woodard found the "no doubter" sweet spot that Murphy talked about in the game one postgame Zoom.

Woodard’s hit allowed her to reach first base. Following Woodard's hit, Kaylee Tow placed a sac bunt to move Woodard and pinch runner Kayla Davis to second and third. Elissa Brown hit an RBI-single to send Davis across the plate. Woodard scored on a Louisiana error.

The Rajin’ Cajuns answered the Crimson Tide with one run in the top of the third. A walk, that was followed by a double, put runners on second and third for Louisiana. A sac fly brought in the walked batter. Brown’s catch in center field and long throw to Bailey Hemphill led to a heads up play to third by the catcher to get the final out of the half-inning.

Louisiana would not score for the rest of the game.

Savannah Woodard answered Louisiana's one run with a two-out inside-the-park two-run home run.

With Morgan on first, Woodard saw five pitches and homered on a 2-2 count bringing in two runs for the Crimson Tide.

“I was busting it right out of the box,” said Woodard. “I definitely did not think it was going to turn in to an in-the-park home run at all.”

Woodard went 2-for-3 in game two after getting no hits in her three at bats in game one.

“I just tried to focus on better pitches to hit [this game],” said Woodard. “And then be able to produce for my team in a better way.”

In the bottom of the fourth, two errors by Louisiana’s defense allowed Alabama to score its final run of the game.

The combined efforts of starting pitcher Krystal Goodman (6-1) and closer Montana Fouts kept Louisiana to just one run.

Goodman allowed one run, gave up three walks, five hits and struck out one batter.

Fouts closed out the game after entering the circle in the fifth inning. This was her third save of the season. She allowed one hit and struck out four batters.

Alabama will resume SEC conference play on April 30. They will take on Georgia in Athens for a three-game series.
