Alabama Snowmageddon 2014: Remembering the Snow and Ice Storm that Shut the State Down
Can y'all believe it's been two years since Snowmegeddon? The epic snow and ice storm took us all by surprise and ended up being a total DISASTER.
Meteorologists were caught off guard by rapidly falling temperatures, resulting in their earlier forecasts' being inaccurate. What was supposed to be a few flurries ended up as several inches of ice and snow.
Here's a pic of our yard--I think my husband took it around 11:00 that morning.
And here's our yard by 3 p.m.
Traffic ended up being a total gridlock as everyone scrambled to pick up their kids, run to the store, and get home before the weather got worse. People ABANDONED THEIR CARS. My mother-in-law works off 280 in Birmingham and was unable to get to her house in Chelsea--she had to spend the night at a random day care because the roads were THAT BAD.
Snowmageddon wasn't totally awful--my daughter did get to enjoy playing in the snow for the first time. I'll never forget her sweet face and the way her eyes lit up when we stepped outside and she saw our yard completely covered in snow.
And our house did look pretty.
I don't think I'd mind another Snowmageddon, actually--as long as we're all safe and warm in our homes first!
