A new school year is set to begin soon, and the Alabama Department of Education is making plans to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff by providing them with face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus continue to climb within the state and across the nation, and the CDC recommends that one of the most effective prevention measures one can take is to wear a face covering.

The Alabama Department of Education announced its plans to provide students, staff, and faculty with a face mask for the school year. The department has purchased over 2.5 million face masks so that each staff member and student can be given three washable and reuasable face masks. Distribution methods have not yet been announced.
