Four Alabama Football players were arrested Monday night on as redshirt freshmen Brent Calloway and DJ Pettway along with true freshmen Tyler Hayes and Eddie Williams were booked by the Tuscaloosa County Sherriff’s Office.

The University of Alabama Police Department, reported two UA students told authorities they were robbed by two men on campus.  Both victims said they were approached by the men who asked to borrow a lighter before striking them in the head, stealing belongings and escaping in a dark-colored SUV.

According to the arrest warrants as first reported by crime reporter Stephanie Taylor of the Tuscaloosa News via her twitter account (@TNews_Steph) , Pettway punched a student in the head and face, then kicked him in the ribs and back before stealing a laptop.

Meanwhile Williams and Hayes also said they attacked another student as Williams told police he attacked the second victim while Hayes and Pettway stood by, knocking him unconscious and stealing his wallet. The players admitted to using a credit card stolen to buy snacks from a vending machine in Bryant Hall.

Late Tuesday morning Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore addressed the situation:

“This is a very serious matter and we are very disappointed in the actions that have resulted in the charges against these student-athletes. In this type of situation, the Athletics Department works in conjunction with the University. We will have more to say at the appropriate time.”

Tuesday afternoon, Alabama head coach Nick Saban followed with his own statement:

“The young men charged are indefinitely suspended as we continue to gather information and talk to the appropriate people. The University and football program have strict guidelines regarding issues of this magnitude. This behavior is unacceptable for any student-athlete at the University of Alabama and not representative of our football program.”

Calloway, who was arrested in October of 2011 on second degree possession of Marijuana, was booked under a charge of fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.

Calloway has since responded via his twitter account.
