A 28-year-old man was shot and killed and another victim was injured at a Fourth of July party at Crescent East Apartments in Tuscaloosa early Sunday morning,

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said police were called the apartments around 12 a.m. on a reports of a shooting and found 28-year-old Kevin Matthews dead on the scene. Another victim, 23, was injured and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment of wounds that Kennedy said were not life-threatening.

Investigators gathered physical evidence and interviewed witnesses and determined that the shooting was the result of an argument at the party. Two men have been arrested and charged.

Deanta Lavendar, 26, and Semaj Taylor, 30, were both located Sunday morning and charged with one count each of murder and attempted murder.

Both men were booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on bonds of $210,000 each.

Kennedy said this incident was not found to be related to the shooting on June 22nd 20 in Crescent East Apartments during which an 8-year-old was struck by stray gunfire.
