The term "pizza" first appeared in Latin text from the town of Gaeta, Italy in 997 AD. Since then, it's become a household word and one of the most popular foods in the world!

Consisting of crust, sauce, meats/vegetables, and cheese, typical pizzas are a well rounded combination of all four food groups. At least that's the way I always saw it as a child who much preferred a dinner of all meat and no vegetables.

Digital lifestyle website Thillist recently put together a list of 'The Best Pizzerias in Every State in America' and Post Office Pies was chosen to represent the great state of Alabama!

Post Office Pies opened their first location inside of an old post office in the Avondale community of Birmingham in early 2014 and specialize in wood fired brick oven pizzas. The Tuscaloosa location on 20th Avenue South opened in late 2015.

The original pizzeria was a collaboration between Saw’s Soul Kitchen owners Mike Wilson and Brandon Cain and expert chef John Hall. The Post Office Pies menu features, of course, a selection or hand-tossed pizzas from the traditional cheese and pepperoni to a Chicken Pesto and the popular “Swine Pie” which features pepperoni, hand-made pork sausage and bacon! They also have “build your own pie” options as well as a variety of salads.

Stop by the Birmingham or Tuscaloosa location and try one of their amazing pizzas and congratulate them on making the list and repping Alabama!
