‘Transformers 4′ Mayhem! Michael Bay Attacked on the Set [UPDATE]
Think you hate Michael Bay's movies? Well, not as much as these guys ...
While on the 'Transformers 4' set in Hong Kong Thursday, the director was attacked by two men, leaving him with non-severe facial injuries.
Bay certainly has acquired his fair share of haters, though this scuffle had nothing to with any sort of fan reaction to his body of work that we know of. Instead, two brothers, 27 and 28, with the surname Mak approached the director and demanded he fork over the equivalent of $12,900, according to a police spokeswoman. After a conversation ensued in the populated area, the eldest brother first attacked Bay and then three intervening officers.
Aside from the two Maks, both of who were arrested, there was a third party surnamed Chan, who is also in custody and under investigation.
Bay, thankfully, walked away with minor injuries to the right side of his face. Like a boss, though, he declined treatment -- the spokeswoman stated she didn't believe he needed them -- and continued filming 'Transformers 4.' Well, you know what they say: No 'Pain,' no 'Gain.'
UPDATE: A press representative for Michael Bay made an official statement on the matter, revealing a somewhat different account involving an air conditioner:
Director Michael Bay and the cast and crew of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” completed their first day of production in Hong Kong today October 17, 2013, after four and a half months of filming in Arizona, Utah, Texas, Michigan, Illinois and Washington state since late May.
Contrary to several erroneous news reports made today, Bay did not get hurt in a fight on set. The production company did have a bizarre encounter with a man (allegedly under the influence of a narcotic substance) who was wielding an air conditioning unit as a weapon. The man, who had earlier accosted several other crew members, rushed onto the set in Quarry Bay and swung the air conditioning unit directly at Bay’s head. The director ducked and wrested the air conditioner from his attacker, preventing what could have been a serious accident. The company’s security team quickly stepped in and subdued the assault. The police, who also scuffled with the assailant and two of his companions, ultimately arrested the three men. No one on the cast or crew was injured and the production immediately resumed filming without further incident.
'Transformers 4,' titled 'Age of Extinction,' stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, T.J. Miller, Sophia Myles and Jack Reynor, and is set for release on June 27, 2014.
