Quentin Tarantino Quits ‘The Hateful Eight’ Due to the Script Being Leaked
Recently, we were buzzed that Quentin Tarantino planned to make a new Western called 'The Hateful Eight.' Alas, the project is being set aside as Tarantino is furious that his script has already leaked all over Hollywood.
Talking to Mike Fleming over at Deadline, Tarantino said he plans to release the script as a book, and then set it aside for a couple of years. But right now Quentin's pissed off, as he said “I’m very, very depressed. I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.” Quentin's scripts have often leaked, with 'Inglourious Basterds' and 'Django Unchained' making the internet rounds well before release, but the ink was barely dry on this one, and he's so upset he's moving on to another project.
Apparently the suspect has been narrowed to the agents of the actors who received it. Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth all got a copy -- though Tarantino has eliminated Roth as a suspect -- and he thinks one let their agent read it, and that person made copies, which has led to Tarantino's agent being inundated by other agents trying to pitch their clients. As such, he seems to have reached out to Fleming to get someone in trouble. "I hadn’t given it to Christoph (Waltz), I haven’t given it to Sam Jackson. I gave it to three motherf---ing actors. We met in a place and I put it in their hands. It’s got to be either the agents of Dern or Madsen. Please name names.”
This is terrible news, as not only was Tarantino's trust violated, it means the wait for his next film is going to be that much longer.
