Lights Out at Bryant-Denny Stadium

The power was off at Bryant-Denny Stadium this Saturday.

In case this ever happens while fans are there, here's what to expect:

UA's website says if the power shuts down during a night game, "generators will provide limited emergency lighting for evacuation purposes."

The site also recommends bringing "a small penlight to assist you" while the power is gone.

Picture it--thousands of tiny penlights lighting up the stadium. It probably makes more sense just to use a phone, though. Make sure to charge 100% on Game Days!

The stadium-wide power outage on Saturday was reported by Jimmy Adams via Facebook:

Adams said that a worker initially told him the power was down.

Adams later reported that Greg McKelvey, Executive Director of Maintenance Operations and Energy at UA said it was a planned electrical outage.

According to Adams' reporting, the power shutdown was "for the purpose of performing preventative maintenance on the stadium in preparation for the season."

McKelvey said that the UA maintenance department has done this annually for the past 10 years. "It's just one of the many proactive things that UA does...to ensure a great experience for all of the fantastic Bama fans."

Speaking of proactive, lots of activity has taken place at Bryant-Denny the past few weeks.  WVTM 13 reported that the UA Athletics grounds crew has been re-sodding the whole stadium.

Be careful ground crews! We don't want to run over a wire and take the power out for real.
