DeVonta Smith Named Player of the Week

The Crimson Tide was back in action after a 21-day layoff this past weekend. Alabama defeated Kentucky 63-3 in Bryant-Denny Stadium to keep its perfect season alive. Alabama's senior receiver, DeVonta Smith, earned SEC Offensive Co-Player of the Week for his performance against the Wildcats.

Smith hauled in nine catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tide in receiving. Additionally, Smith broke an SEC record for most touchdown receptions in a career on Saturday night. Smith's new mark of 33 touchdowns breaks the tie between Alabama's Amari Cooper and Florida's Chris Doering's 31.

Through seven games, Smith leads the Tide with 65 receptions for 903 yards and 10 touchdowns, he also has a rushing touchdown as well. The talented receiver may be known for his "2nd & 26" heroics but Smith has proven over time to be much more than one historic play.

The Crimson Tide has only a few games left on its schedule but Smith could end up leaving the Capstone with a majority of the receiving records. He is 449 yards away from Cooper's career yardage record and his name is littered all throughout the Crimson Tide record book.

Many considered Smith to be the third best wide receiver in a recruiting class with Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy but Smith is proving that he is not one to be written off. He has led the Alabama offense this year admirably and even elevated his game when Jaylen Waddle went down with injury.
