West Blocton, AL-- The Bibb County Choctaws traveled to face off against local rival West Blocton Friday night. The Choctaws took advantage of the Tigers' mistakes early to jump out to an early lead and cruise to a final score of 35-0.

The game started with the ball in the hands of Bibb County and they jumped on the opportunity to make an early impact on the momentum of the game. After a few quick passes from quarterback John Downs to move the Choctaws into the redzone, running back Jaison Taylor gashed the Tiger defense right up the middle for a quick 10-yard score to put them on the board with just over a minute off the clock.

West Blocton received the ball in favorable field position after the kickoff with a chance to answer the quick score. On the first play of the drive, freshman quarterback threw a ball out to the flat on his right. Unfortunately for him, Bibb County cornerback Braxton Wallace read the play all the way and flew in for the interception before taking it another 38 yards to the house.

West Blocton punted on the subsequent drive, and the Choctaws got the ball back near midfield with a chance to strike again. Downs completed a pass on the teams second play of the drive for 42 yards to wideout Antonious Steele to set up the Choctaws in scoring range again. Downs found himself in the endzone two plays later after a 7-yard scamper around the left edge.

Downs finished the night with 201 passing yards and added 27 more on the ground.

The Choctaw defense remained firm the entire game in the shutout effort and in the first half, West Blocton only took four snaps in Bibb County territory.

The problem down the stretch for the unit in the second half was penalties. The unit remained strong in key situations, but they allowed West Blocton to get in scoring position on multiple occasions. Edge rusher Trashun Griffin anchored the stout defense and deflected multiple passes with his towering height at 6-foot-5.

When asked about his teams future this season Bibb County head coach Matt Geohagan said, " if we continue making stupid penalties and we turn the ball over then we are not going to be very good."

Taylor was pulled early in the second half after having his second fumble of the night but Geohagan thinks he will be able to bounce back after the rough outing.

Colby Collums entered the game to fill the shoes of the struggling Taylor and performed. After playing the majority of his snaps out wide in the first half, Collums moved to the backfield for the remainder of the game.

Collums ran wild in the second half starting off with a 76-yard sweep around the right end resulting in a touchdown that stifled any chances of West Blocton making a comeback.

Collums scored again on a 34-yard touchdown run in the middle of the fourth quarter to give his team the final score of the game.

Collums earned player of the game honors after his performance. He tallied 74 yards receiving, 158 yards rushing and the two second half touchdown runs. Collums made big plays on the field the entire night to help push his team to victory.

West Blocton struggled to move the ball effectively the entire game relying heavily on sophomore running back Nate Barron to carry the majority of the load on offense. Barron managed to gut out 75 rushing yards for the Tigers in the losing effort.

West Blocton head coach Dre'Mail King said, "we are playing hard with all of our heart but we are not executing and finishing so that little extra drive that we need on the back end, we are just not getting" about his teams effort in the crushing defeat.
