Bar Fight Victim Pulled off Life Support, New Charges May Follow
A man severely injured in a fight outside a bar in downtown Tuscaloosa has been pulled off life support and died, according to the Tuscaloosa News.
The victim, a 26-year-old man, has been in critical condition since a fight outside the Filling Station on August 31st.
A 23-year-old suspect, Ryan Gunning, was charged with third-degree assault after the altercation and was later released on bond.
Lt. Jack Kennedy, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said "legal technicalities" prevented investigators from releasing more information about the case or upgrading charges against the alleged assailant from assault to murder or manslaughter at this time.
“The VCU is aware and monitoring the victim’s medical condition from the assault from Aug. 31, 2019 that occurred at the Filling Station located in Temerson Square,” Kennedy said."Due to legal technicalities, any changes or upgrades of any charges in this case cannot be made at present. An information release will be made to the media when investigation is finalized. We anticipate this to possibly be a few days from now. Thank you for the continued respect and privacy for the victim’s family at this time.”
