Get ready for big changes to Interstate 20/59. ALDOT begins work to split travel with the addition of a barrier wall.

The contractor plans to split eastbound traffic on I-20/59 prior to Exit 73 on Thursday night (June 27) with barrier wall in order to construct the eastbound outside travel lanes.
Installing the split will reduce eastbound traffic to one lane between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Once the split is completed, two lanes will remain open on the interstate, including entrance and exit ramps, in both directions. Law enforcement will be on site to assist with traffic. Due to the split, only eastbound motorists in the right lane will be able to access the Exit 76 offramp for approximately 4-5 months.

This work is part of the add lanes and bridge replacement project from near Exit 73 to near Exit 77 that is intended to improve safety, mobility and commerce. It is expected to be completed by December 2020.
